Granny & Pouchu — Book Conversation
It is another bright day in Granny’s Pouch land.
Pouchu comes bouncing towards Granny, clutching a picture book. His eyes are shining, and from the way he is hopping about, Granny knows that whatever he has found, it cannot possibly wait.
Pouchu: Granny!
Granny: Hmm? What have you found now, little Pouchu?
Pouchu: A book!
Granny: Ah! A book. And judging by that face, it must be a very important book.
Pouchu holds it out proudly.
Pouchu: Read it with me?
Granny: Of course. Come here.
Pouchu snuggles up beside her.
Pouchu: You read.
Granny: I can.
Pouchu: And tell me what happens.
Granny looks at him over her glasses.
Granny: Oh, then fun is all lost?
Pouchu: Yes. But then you’re Granny.
Granny: Ah! So that is how it works?
Pouchu nods.
Pouchu: Granny knows everything.
Granny: Everything?
Pouchu: Mostly.
Granny chuckles and gives him a little nudge.
Granny: Well then, let us see if this little book knows how to surprise me.
They open the book.
A little girl is walking through a forest.
She is looking for her friends.
Pouchu: She’s looking for someone.
Granny: Mmm… she is.
Pouchu: Her friends, I think.
Granny: I think so too.
Pouchu looks closely at the picture.
Pouchu: I hope she finds them.
Granny: So do I, Pouchu.
They turn the page.
The girl meets an owl.
The owl drops a feather.
The girl picks it up and puts it in her hair.
Pouchu stops.
Pouchu: Granny…
Granny: Hmm?
Pouchu: Why did she put the feather in her hair?
Granny: Now that is a very good question.
Granny smiles.
Granny: I suppose we shall have to see what that feather has to say for itself.
Pouchu giggles and turns the page.
And suddenly—
Pouchu: Oh!
He looks up.
Pouchu: Granny!
Granny: What happened?
Pouchu: Look!
He points excitedly at the page.
Pouchu: The forest has changed!
Granny leans closer.
Granny: Oh my!
Pouchu: How did it do that?
Granny: Hmm…
She looks at the feather.
Then at the little girl.
Then at the strange new world around her.
Granny: I think that feather may be a little more magical than it looks.
Pouchu’s eyes grow even wider.
Pouchu: You think so?
Granny: I do.
Pouchu immediately reaches for the next page.
Pouchu: This is so exciting! Let’s read fast!
Granny: Oh, little Pouchu, slowly! Don’t rush past the pages—you might miss a little bit of magic.
And together, they turn the page.
A little girl walks through a forest searching for her friends.
Along the way, she meets an owl—and a feather finds its way into her hair.
And then…
something magical happens.
The world around her begins to change.
What happens next?
Ah, that is where we shall stop.
Because some stories are much more fun when you discover their magic for yourself.
